National Day!! -- So eventful...
9th August 2007
My firework kakis n I decided to make our way to Esplanade this year to celebrate our nation's birthday but we didn't expect the huge crowd!!! We reached there at 5pm. The exit to Esplanade was already cordoned off. We made our way to the other exit n try to make our way under the Esplanade bridge to get to the Esplanade. After squeezing through the barricade, again that area was already cordoned off. Huge crowd. Then we walked to Fullerton Hotel side and decided to go on the bridge, the side that is away from the mouth of the river. Alot of squeezing and pushing, a Bangela actually 'opened the road' for me, very thankful to him. Halfway through the jostling, I felt that I was in India! So many Bangela! Every year I seem to spend National Day with them. We finally got to the bridge, there wasn't alot of people there but the foreign workers climbed onto the seats so we couldn't even get a good view.
But we were lucky, we met this two caucasians, we called them hong xian sheng and hong tai tai (they are actually Mr and Mrs Michael Carlson). They had a tripod infront of them so that sort of prevented the crowd from blocking our views. They were very friendly and very civilised, we chatted with them on and off, great company for the evening. Mrs Carlson actually mistook us as dating couples! Haha! Poor Kelvin and Boon, had to pair up with two 'aunties'. Another Bangela, meng xian sheng, was very thoughtful too, he actually offered to let me stand in front of him so that I could get a better view, he said "Sister, you can stand here." Hehe. But I declined his offer. Scared.
After the fireworks and saying goodbyes to Mr and Mrs Carlson and my new Bangela friend, we made our way to the makan place. We were dying of thirst because of all the chatting for the past 4 hours. We went to Changing Appetites for my lemonade called Lime Me Up and also to see Kumar the waiter with the mesmerising eyes. I got to see Kumar and the boys and Sally got to admire a very sweet looking waitress, 'Cheryl'. Hehe. Good food, good drinks, good company and good view. Hehe. Sally as usual, very 'friendly', actually asked Kumar where he is from and he answered Mongolia. Weird, he doesn't look Mongolian at all.
After parting ways with Boon and Sally at the mrt station, I met Jovin, the hunk, at the bus stop. He asked me where I had been. Told him I went to watch the fireworks with friends. He said I must have wished that I was watching it with a special someone. I answered no. It is always nicer to watch it with a group of enthusiaistic kakis than to drag an unwilling boyfriend along, like Mr Carlson. Hehe. Four long hours, really need good company!
Mr and Mrs Carlson were really sweet, he actually sent the pics to Kelvin after asking him for his email address. Really fortunate to have met them that night.
A very eventful evening, marred by an angry outburst by a Malay man but overall it was a Great evening!
Happy Birthday, Singapore! Love You!
